This year, CCTV Video introduced ultra-HD large and small screen integrated broadcasting technology, allowing users to watch live and on-demand programs not only on their mobile phones but also seamlessly cast content to their living room TVs using the “CCTV Video” screen mirroring function. The operation is simple and quick, taking only five seconds to complete, and it supports 4K/8K ultra-HD picture quality with maximum bitrates of 36Mbps and 120Mbps, respectively. In addition, the newly added “synchronized listening” feature allows users to enjoy synchronized 3D immersive audio via headphones, further enhancing the viewing experience.
Upgraded 8K live broadcast
For the fourth consecutive year, China Media Group (CMG) has adopted 8K technology for the live broadcast of the Spring Festival Gala, demonstrating China’s significant progress in the ultra-HD video sector. Leveraging the scientific research platform of the National Key Laboratory for Ultra-HD Video, CMG has successfully developed fully localized 4K/8K IP production systems, 3D immersive audio production, transmission and rendering technologies, and 8K cameras. This year’s 8K broadcast used a high-quality production model of “8K ultra-HD video+ 3D immersive sound” and was simultaneously broadcast on ultra-HD screens nationwide, providing viewers with an unparalleled visual experience.
“XR+ Digital Twin+ VP” integrated filming
Since introducing the XR (Extended Reality) ultra-HD production system in 2021, CMG has continuously upgraded its technology. This year, the system integrated digital twin technology and large-scale scene scanning and reconstruction technology, allowing the virtual stage space to expand indefinitely. By scanning and creating 3D models of ancient architectural complexes on stage, real dancers interact seamlessly with their digital counterparts, allowing the audience to experience a profound fusion of cultural artistry and innovative technology through visually dynamic transformations.
Stereoscopic Video and AI Interaction
To provide a multi-dimensional presentation of the gala performances, CMG partnered with Alibaba Cloud to deploy a cloud-based multi-view shooting system featuring a 30-camera array in the studio hall. Utilizing stereoscopic vision AI algorithms, the system generated real-time 3D point cloud-rendered videos and applied intelligent virtual camera techniques, providing unique perspectives that traditional cameras could not capture. In addition, a high-precision AI visual tracking system detected smart beacons worn by performers, collecting real-time location and posture data, enabling seamless synchronization between virtual effects and performers’ movements, bringing a new level of interactive visual experience to dance and music performances.
AIGC Animation Generation
This year’s Spring Festival Gala also showcased the latest advancements in AIGC (AI-Generated Content) technology. The Year of the Snake gala used AIGC innovative technology to enhance stage effects with AI-generated visual effects, ensuring that every frame was filled with creativity.
CMG, in collaboration with Alibaba Cloud, used AI-generated video and dynamic character animation algorithms to bring figures from ancient paintings and texts to life on stage, showcasing the elegance of traditional Chinese culture. Additionally, AIGC animation models generated unique characters and background environments for musical and dance performances, providing a one-of-a-kind visual spectacle for audiences.
Immersive Studio Hall
This year’s Spring Festival Gala broadcast hall has the following four characteristics:
First, Ruyi modelled through the audience connected to the main stage of the Spring Festival Gala, the actors of the studio hall of the Spring Festival Gala and the audience as one, to create a joyful atmosphere of universal celebration.
Second, the center of the stage creates a 5mx5m LED cube lifting module, the use of naked-eye 3D technology to create a dazzling impact, realistic three-dimensional visual effects, and the use of AR technology to bring an immersive experience for TV viewers.
Third, through the program-controlled projection curtain, LED mobile screen, LED lifting stage and colorful computer lights, to build the broadcast space of heaven and earth, the stage shape is colorful and fantastical.
Fourth, it adopts distributed and precise sound reinforcement technology to greatly reduce the noise in the studio hall and build a high-standard acoustic broadcasting environment.
