Project Overview

For a retail store located in a shopping mall in France, our team recently completed an indoor Interactive LED floor screen project designed to bring digital interaction directly into the customer’s shopping environment.

The installation covers 3.5 × 2.5 meters, with a total display area of 8.75 m², and uses a P1.95mm pixel pitch. When visitors step onto the screen, the interactive sensing system detects their movement and triggers corresponding visual effects.

The project combines a modular LED floor structure, fine-pitch LED display, and interactive technology to create a digital floor that responds to visitors in real time.

Project Background

The customer wanted to introduce a more interactive digital element into the retail store while making use of an open floor area within the shop.

A conventional LED wall would provide visual content, but it would remain separate from the customer’s physical movement through the store. The idea behind this project was different: the floor itself would become part of the digital experience.

Visitors could walk across the display naturally while interacting with the visual content through their movement.

This meant the solution needed to address both display performance and the structural requirements of an LED floor.

Project Requirements

Based on the application and installation environment, several requirements were identified during the project design:

  • A screen size suitable for the available retail space
  • Fine image quality for close-range indoor viewing
  • A modular structure for installation and maintenance
  • A floor surface suitable for regular pedestrian traffic
  • Integration with an interactive sensing system
  • Smooth interaction between visitor movement and visual content

After considering these requirements, a 3.5 × 2.5m P1.95 interactive LED floor screen was selected for the project.

The screen uses a P1.95mm pixel pitch, which is suitable for an indoor environment where visitors may view the display from relatively short distances.

The fine pixel pitch provides detailed visual reproduction for animated graphics and interactive content, while the 3.5 × 2.5m screen size provides an adequate interactive area without occupying an excessive amount of the retail space.

How the Interactive LED Floor Works

The interactive function is based on a sensing system connected to the LED display and control system.

When a visitor steps onto the screen, the system detects the person’s position or movement and sends the corresponding information to the display system.

The content can then respond accordingly.

For example, visual effects can appear around the visitor’s footsteps, spread outward from a particular position, or change as the person moves across different areas of the floor.

The interactive content can be customized depending on the retailer’s requirements. This allows the same LED floor hardware to support different visual concepts, promotional campaigns, and seasonal content.

Designed for a Floor Installation

An LED floor requires different considerations from a conventional indoor LED display.

Because visitors directly interact with the screen surface, the supporting structure and surface protection are important parts of the overall solution.

For this project, the LED display was assembled using a modular floor-screen structure designed for the indoor retail environment.

The modular approach also provides practical advantages during installation and maintenance. Individual modules and components can be accessed when necessary, while the overall screen can be configured according to the required floor dimensions.

The structural design, LED modules, control system, and interactive components were considered as one complete system rather than as separate products.

Integrating Digital Content with the Retail Environment

One of the main characteristics of this project is that the LED display does not function simply as another digital signage screen.

It is integrated directly into the physical environment.

Visitors can approach the screen, step onto it, and see the content respond to their movements. This makes the floor part of the interaction between the visitor and the retail space.

The same installation can also be used with different content over time. Retailers can update the visual effects according to new campaigns, seasonal themes, product launches, or special events without changing the physical LED floor.

Project Result

The completed installation provides the retail store with an 8.75 m² interactive digital floor that combines high-resolution indoor LED display technology with real-time movement interaction.

The project demonstrates how a relatively compact floor area can be converted into an interactive feature within a retail environment.

Rather than adding another screen to the walls, the customer chose to integrate digital content directly into the floor—creating an experience in which visitors can physically interact with the display.
